چکیده

Background Postoperative pulmonary complications correlate highly with thoracic surgery compared to other surgeries. Video-assisted thoracoscopic (VATS) is a minimally invasive surgical approach that provides considerable advantages over major open thoracotomy. Methodology This retrospective cohort study. All patients aged 18 years and above of both genders were included in the Cases following up outside King Abdulaziz University Hospital (KAUH), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, excluded from our Complications measured per records on follow-up day 1, 7, 30. Mortality was within 30 days after surgery. Results A total 151 Age ranged 85 years, males representing 62.3% sample, while Saudis represented 59.6%. VATS performed 71.5%, thoracotomy 28.5%. Of total, 19.4% had postoperative group, 23.3% group. No significant differences found between rates two groups. Additionally, admission rate ICU significantly twice as common group (65.1%) (33.3%). Besides, average duration chest tube's stay three seven groups (62.1% 70.7% group). Lastly, regarding requirements opioids, showed more need for opioids (44.4%) (32.6%). Conclusion The low groups, no procedures. In addition, higher use We recommend conducting further studies larger sample sizes increase statistical power detection.

An i.v. solution of 5% dextrose with doxapram 2 mg ml-1 or 5% dextrose alone was administered to 53 patients following lateral thoracotomy. Estimations of arterial PO2, PCO2 and pH were made before operation, during infusion and 7 days after after operation. Respiratory function tests were carried out before and 7 days after operation. There were no significant differences in arterial PO2, PCO2...

Comparison of acute phase reaction and postoperative stress in pigs undergoing video-assisted thoracoscopic versus thoracotomy pneumonectomy

BACKGROUND Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) has been used for many thoracic diseases as an alternate approach to thoracotomy. The aim of this study was to compare the surgical outcome of pneumonectomy using VATS with that using thoracotomy pneumonectomy in pigs. Fourteen pigs were equally divided into two groups; one group underwent VATS and the other group underwent transthoracic pn...

Postoperative Complications in Patients With Unrecognized Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome Undergoing Elective Noncardiac Surgery.

BACKGROUND Among patients with OSA, a higher number of medical morbidities are known to be associated with those who have obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) compared with OSA alone. OHS can pose a higher risk of postoperative complications after elective noncardiac surgery (NCS) and often is unrecognized at the time of surgery. The objective of this study was to retrospectively identify pat...
